The recently opened Kenmare is getting a lot of hype, and as we’re always interested in the latest downtown spots, we sent our very own Scott Sussman to review the new haunt – his first impressions below.
Helmed by chef Joey Campanaro and nightlife entrepreneur Paul Sevigny, I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Kenmare. As it’s in the same neighborhood as our offices and our retail store, I pass it all the time. Though reservations are hard to come by, I managed to pencil one in for an after-work dinner. The restaurant’s decor is a bit classic, as if from a bygone era and was filling up with a lively downtown crowd.
Though we were intrigued by some of the more unique items on the menu, namely the Broccoli Beer Soup and Sautéed Sardine Fillets, no one at my dining table ordered either – maybe next time! I started off with the Tuna Carpaccio (loved it, very fresh) and then had the Grilled Swordfish which I cleaned my plate for. My dining companion had the Meatball sliders and then the New York Strip Steak – both quite good. The service was excellent – Our waiter was very knowledgeable and kept our water glasses filled. I’ll definitely visit Kenmare again – there’s more on the menu I’m curious to try…
